Raven Golf Club at Snowshoe Resort in Snowshoe
The Raven Golf Club, previously known as the Hawthorne Valley at Snowshoe, is nestled in the scenic hills of Pocahontas county, WV. This 18-hole Gary Player signature mountian course, features a full practice facility and all the amenities known to other Intrawest "Raven" courses. This course was designed with the average golfer in mind. The terrain is very hilly and requires many uphill shots. Gary Player used a lot of the natural terrain while designing this course. The front nine plays through hardwoods and around several lakes, and then climbs into higher elevations for the back nine, with several cliff-side tee boxes. Some of the greens overlook the entire mountain side, while others are also on top of a cliff. The fairways are tight, including eleven that are tree lined, so there is a real need for accuracy. Water hazards (three ponds and a creek) come into play on eight holes. The green on hole #2 is almost completely surrounded by the creek. The #14 and #18 holes have creeks down the middle of their fairways. "GOLFWEEK" rated this course 96th among "America's 100 Best Modern Courses" for 1998 and 97th for 1999. The course is part of the Snowshoe Mountain Resort and tee times are available up to 2 weeks in advance. Getaway packages are available through the lodging department.
