The signature hole on this course is #1 because it features a water hazard to the left and was rated as one of the longest holes in the state by "The Chicago Tribune." This course's fairways are straight-forward and well-protected by sand bunkers. Water hazards (ponds) come into play on three holes. In addition, three ponds come into play on hole #14. All of the greens are well guarded by sand bunkers. The famous prize fighter Joe Louis played many rounds at this course, and the Joe Louis Driving Range has forty lighted stations.
