Canebrake Golf Club in Hattiesburg
This course is a typical Jerry Pate design with severely sloping greens, square tee boxes and odd-shaped bunkers. The fairways are rolling and have some elevation change. A few of the fairways are tree lined. Seven holes play around a big lake. The greens are large and undulating. There is an abundance of wetlands. Overall, the course is both challenging and fair. The signature hole is #16, a 243-yard, par 3, which requires a tee shot over a water hazard. Water hazards and sand surround the green. "Golf Digest" selected it 2nd among the "Best New Affordable" courses for 1999. The club will be semi-private until the membership dictates the transition to a completely private facility.
