Bay View Retirees Golf Course in Toledo
This is a twelve hole retirees' course donated by the City of Toledo, and in order to play it, golfers must be fifty years of age or older. The course, located alongside Lake Erie, was built on flat terrain and has a strong wind that frequently blows well-hit shots into undesirable locations. All of the staff work on a volunteer basis and must meet the same set of eligibility criteria as the golfers. The staff can play for free in exchange for working at the course. Many elderly citizens who would not ordinarily have such a leisure opportunity take advantage of this facility. Among the golfers who frequent the course are one man who inhales deeply from an oxygen tank between shots and another man who is blind and plays with a well-trained seeing-eye dog.
